Child Safety Monitoring:LoRaWAN® Wearable Devices for a German School

Keeping kids safe is harder than people think. According to the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study, outdoor play and sports activities are the main cause of serious injuries among kids. Children are naturally curious and active, which is exactly why schools need a smart monitoring system, especially during outdoor activities.

Challenge

This German elementary school runs a lot of outdoor programs such as sports classes and nature trips. However, due to a shortage of teachers, keeping an eye on every child is a real challenge. One teacher is responsible for 20 children. Outdoors, kids are always on the move—scattering across fields and disappearing behind trees. With only one pair of eyes, a teacher can’t look after everyone. If a child falls or wanders off, such an incident might go unnoticed until it’s too late. To solve this, the school needs a real-time child safety monitoring solution without hiring more staff.

Solution

The school now relies on the MOKOSMART LoRaWAN® child safety monitoring system centered around the LW014 wristbands. After purchasing 120 units this April, the school reduces manual headcounts. Staff can now find a specific child in just minutes, which makes outdoor activities much less stressful.

While playing outside, every pupil wears an LW014 wristband. The LW014 determines its location in two ways. Outdoors, the device uses GPS satellites to pinpoint each child’s location. Indoors, it switches to Bluetooth to determine their exact area within the building. The control-center dashboard then brings all data together and gives teachers a clear view of every pupil on the screen.

Each wristband has its own alarm button. The buttons feature programmable trigger logic. Teachers can configure multi-clicks or long-presses (up to 10 seconds) to represent different issues.

With the LW014 in place, the division of labor becomes simple. Outside, the group leader can focus entirely on the kids instead of constantly counting heads. Inside, a teacher just needs to monitor the live map on the dashboard. If anything looks off on the screen, the person inside can instantly guide the outdoor teacher to the exact spot.

Featured Product

The LW014 is a wearable panic button built for fast and dependable emergency response. LW014 combines LoRaWAN® transmission with GPS and Bluetooth positioning to address indoor and outdoor accidents effectively. It reaches up to 5 km in open areas, which is more than enough to cover an entire school campus. This device needs no cellular plan, which keeps running costs lower. The LW014 offers schools a practical way to improve student visibility and support faster responses during outdoor activities.
