Electrical shared transportation modes have been seen to widely spread in urban and park environments, which significantly enhance mobility convenience. However, ensuring uninterrupted service depends on solving a critical challenge: battery recharging management. To address this, we introduce a LoRaWAN® electric scooter tracking solution that simultaneously tracks vehicle locations and battery levels in real time. By providing managers with actionable insights, this solution ensures timely battery maintenance, reduces service disruptions, and optimizes user experience.
In a bustling science and technology park located in Uruguay, the management has long struggled with the challenge of efficiently tracking hundreds of electric scooters deployed. These electric scooters, utilized daily by park employees and university students as a convenient mode of transportation within the park, present operational problems due to their high-frequency usage.
The manager faces persistent difficulties in tracking the real-time locations of these vehicles, as well as monitoring their battery levels. Their battery levels could be a critical factor to maintain uninterrupted service. Without a reliable system, the risk of scooters running out of power mid-ride or being misplaced in remote areas will disrupt operations. This highlights the urgent need for an innovative solution to streamline scooter management and enhance the overall user experience.
To address these operational challenges, we introduce our LoRaWAN®-based tracking solution, designed to optimize the management of these electric scooters. By integrating LoRaWAN positioning technology into compact trackers, our system enables real-time and high-precision location tracking of scooters deployed across the park. These trackers, mounted on each vehicle, leverage the LoRaWAN’s long-range and low-power transmission capabilities of LoRaWAN® to transmit accurate location data.
A standout innovation of our solution lies in its power design: the trackers are recharged directly by the scooters’ batteries, eliminating the need for manual battery replacements and ensuring uninterrupted operation. Beyond location tracking, the system continuously monitors the scooters’ battery levels and visualizes this data on the management platform using intuitive color-coded indicators (green for full charge, yellow for moderate, red for low – triggering immediate recharging alerts). This dual functionality empowers managers to proactively schedule maintenance, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency and user satisfaction.
LW004-PB, a compact LoRaWAN panic button integrating BLE and GPS technologies, shows great positioning technologies in both indoor and outdoor scenarios. Equipped with a panic button, LW004 will send position information to server when it is triggered until stop the alert. It is also ideal for the emergency cases for personal safety and alert notification.
