Truck Arrival Tracking with LoRaWAN® Boosts Unloading at a Peru Park

As is known to all, industrial and logistical operations are often dynamic and complex to manage. Efficiency plays a crucial role in such settings to reach a relatively successful process. Such efficiency needs a seamless integration of various parts, including supply chains, inventory management and transportation. Any delay from one side will trigger a chain reaction of adverse consequences. The urgent need to adopt more innovative and efficient solutions has become obvious, and this is where IoT truck arrival tracking comes into play.

Challenge

A large industrial park in Peru, crucial for manufacturing and logistics operations, faces challenges in optimizing uploading processes. This park acts as a busy center, as it extends across several kilometers and attracts numerous trucks daily to conduct various commercial activities. These trucks are often fully loaded with various goods used for diverse businesses, arrive in a relatively unforeseeable manner due to unpredictable variables like real-time traffic conditions. This park relies on traditional manual methods, which are often difficult to monitor in real-time.

Unloading staff in the park are usually in reactive status because these trucks pour in irregularly. Adopting manual method, there is no way to obtain the exact arrival time of these trucks. Employees cannot prepare in advance, resulting in frequently random arrangements. This not only keeps unloading staff always interrupted or in a hurry, but also extends the unnecessary waiting time of truck drivers, thus leading to potential delays and reducing the overall efficiency.

Solution

To address these challenges, we propose a smarter solution leveraging wireless IoT technologies to optimize the unloading process. The core of this solution is equipping every driver with a LW006-SB badge, a multi-tech tracker combining LoRaWAN network with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS for both reliable indoor and outdoor positioning services.

Once the drivers begin their journey to the industrial park, their locations will be obtained via GPS tracking technologies in real-time. Via outdoor gateway, these locations will be then transmitted to a centralized management platform via LoRa signals. In this way, the precise location of the drivers and when the vehicle enters the material loading area will be known at any time. To add a layer of precision, we also place several BLE beacons near the gate of the park. As the truck approaches the park, the badge will automatically scan BLE beacons. The moment the badge scans BLE signals sent from these beacons, it will instantly transmit the information to the platform as well. Such accurate timing and location information sends a clear signal to staff that the truck will soon arrive.

Having received the arrival info in advance, unloading staff could begin allocating the resources and assigning appropriate personnel to handle the unloading tasks. This approach enables staff to transform their previously passivity into a more initiative state, thereby minimizing waiting time and enhancing the overall efficiency. Integrating these wireless IoT technologies, our solution streamlines the unloading process, and also paves the way for more efficient and well-organized logistic operations.
