Smart Parking Occupancy Solution: Automating Efficiency for Urban Parking

As urban economies accelerate, an increasingly number of vehicles have made parking management in public areas challenging. Traditional human recordings prone to take mistakes, leading to inefficiencies, such as misallocated spaces and overcrowded zones. Challenge

In an urban public park in UAB, efficient management of hundreds parking spaces faces challenges. This park is located at the city center, which experiences heavy traffic, especially on weekends. During peak hours, this lot fills to capacity within minutes, with drivers circling endlessly in search of available spaces. At that time, the park relied on manual methods by staff to identify vacant spots, a process that is often delayed and error-prone. Without digital sensors or cameras to monitor space availability, drivers waste lots of minutes per visit searching for parking, contributing to traffic congestions. This not only causes traffic problems, but also frustrates drivers.

Similarly, the Spanish Government struggles to monitor off-street parking designated for disabled individuals. These disabled parking spaces, are usually misused by normal drivers because of the limited off-street spaces. This leads to disabled are left with no alternative but to park illegally in non-reserved areas or somewhere far away from their destinations. In parallel, a gas station in Panama encounters difficulties in accurately tracking vehicle parking metrics, including the number of vehicles parked and the duration of their stays. Without digital sensors, it would be quite challenging to achieve real-time and accurate monitoring.

Traditional manual methods are feasible where parking spaces are limited. However, they have been proved inadequate as parking volumes grow. These approaches demand growing human resources, who are susceptible to take errors when fatigue. Also, they often fail to provide the timeliness required for effective space optimization. As urban areas continue to expand and parking demands evolve, manual processes will have limited contributions. Such limitations of traditional methods underscore the urgent need for a more effective solution.

Solution

To address these challenges, a more automated data-driven solution would be a feasible choice. Our parking monitoring hardware solution leverages advanced sensor technology to provide a real-time and precise tracking of parking space occupancy. Built on a three-axis joint detection algorithm and radar dual-detection modes, these sensors deliver highly accurate results. Easily installed on individual parking spaces, they contribute greatly to map the occupancy statues across entire parking lots.

After well deployment, these sensors also detect vehicle arrivals and departures. When a vehicle is parked in a corresponding parking space, the sensor records arrival time of vehicle within several seconds, and similarly logs the departure time once the vehicle leaves. Such precise tracking ensures further calculation of parking durations, reducing human error to the greatest extend. By automating data collection, the solution combined with software empowers parking managers with actionable insights to optimize traffic flow and allocate parking resources more effectively.
